Feature SpotlightsDecember 12, 2024

Tax season brings a mountain of paperwork for small business owners who work with 1099 contractors. Tracking down payment information, gathering W-9 forms, and generating, sending, and filing 1099-NEC forms—each step presents opportunities for expensive mistakes.

For small business owners who pay 1099 contractors, there’s a lot of added work:

  • Tracking year-to-date payments to each contractor

  • Verifying each contractor's tax information provided on their W-9 is correct

  • Generating 1099-NEC forms

  • Distributing forms to contractors

  • Filing forms with the IRS and state tax authorities (if applicable)

The worst part? The stakes are high: inaccurate information or missed deadlines can result in penalties from the IRS, not to mention the stress and administrative burden.

Found’s contractor management tools make managing your 1099 contractors easy, taking care of the nitty-gritty details for you. And it just got even easier.

Introducing: E-file 1099-NEC tax forms with Found

Found now handles this entire process for you, filing your forms with the IRS. You can review the 1099-NEC forms auto-generated by Found (which already reflect accurate year-to-date payment data), confirm contractor information is correct, and submit your forms electronically—all without leaving the Found platform.

Tip: The filing window opens January 1, 2025. To use Found's e-filing service, you’ll need to submit your forms by Wednesday, January 15, 2025 to give us ample time to file for you. If filing on your own, the IRS deadline is January 31, 2025.

If you choose to file through Found, here's how the process works:

  1. Gather W-9 information from your contractors. Hearing crickets? We make it easy to batch request W-9s from your 1099 contractors

  2. Review your 1099-NEC forms generated by Found, which will pull from your payment records

  3. Verify contractor information is correct

  4. Choose to e-file through Found before January 15, 2025

  5. Download copies of the 1099-NEC forms and send to your 1099 contractors

Remember: Some states require 1099 filing at the state level as well, so be sure to check your local requirements.

Say goodbye to the stress of tax season paperwork. With Found's e-filing for 1099-NEC forms, you can take one more thing off your tax season checklist.
