How do I import payment history for my contractors?

How do I import payment history for my contractors?

If you’ve been paying contractors outside of Found, it’s important to make sure that all of those payments are accounted for to take full advantage of Found’s 1099 management and filing features.

The easiest way to import all of your past contractor payments is by importing a CSV. If you keep track of your contractor payments in a spreadsheet, you’re already halfway there! Create a spreadsheet with three columns: Date, Name, and Amount. Be sure that your amounts start with a minus sign to indicate that they were payments.

Your spreadsheet might look something like this:

Date

Name

Amount

8/25/2024

Arthur Edens

-$250

9/15/2024

Arthur Edens

-$500

9/16/2024

Michael Clayton

-$1000

Once you’re done adding payments to your spreadsheet, export it as a CSV. That will look something like this:

Date,Name,Amount
8/25/2024,Arthur Edens,-$250
9/15/2024,Arthur Edens,-$500
9/16/2024,Michael Clayton,-$1000

Now that you have your CSV file, you can import it into Found and associate your payments with your contractors:

  1. Navigate to the Activity tab and select Add income or transactions (+).

  2. Select Upload spreadsheet from the menu.

  3. Drag and drop your CSV into the upload box and select Import transactions.

  4. Found will filter your Activity to show your imported transactions. Select the checkboxes next to each payment for a given contractor and click Assign contractor.

  5. Choose your contractor from your contacts list. If you haven’t added this contractor to Found yet, select Create new contact.

    1. Enter your contractor’s phone number and/or email address so that you can send them a 1099-NEC form at the end of the year. You may also optionally add their business information.

  6. Repeat for your remaining contractors.

Once you’ve added your previous contractor payments, you can enter their W-9 information or request that they securely fill out a W-9 themselves. Or, opt to require W-9 information as part of your next payment to them from Found.
